Meet Joel Doyon, D.D.S.
As a native Mainer from Winterport (a small town just south of Bangor), Dr. Doyon is of French-Canadian descent. He graduated from The University of Maine in Orono with distinction and received his dental degree cum laude from The Georgetown University School of Dentistry, where he was inducted into Omicron Kappa Upsilon, a national dental honor society.
The majority of Dr. Doyon’s dental career occurred in Portland, but he recently moved his practice to Buxton. He is a firm believer in continuing dental education in order to remain current in the recent advances and technology available to treat his patients. He attends annual educational courses – not because he has to, but because he loves to learn! It is a cornerstone of who Dr. Doyon is as a person and as a dentist. “When I stop learning and growing, I might as well stop practicing. I know that when I enhance my skills, I’m helping the people I care most about – my patients.”
As further proof of his desire to educate and grow as a dentist, he received his Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry. In July 2016 at the annual meeting of the Academy of General Dentistry, he received his Master of the Academy of General Dentistry recognition-the highest honor one can achieve with the prestigious organization.
Dr. Doyon is also an active member of:
- American Dental Association
- Maine Dental Association
- Greater Portland Dental Society
- Academy of General Dentistry
- International Congress of Oral Implantologists

During his travels with fellow dentists in the People to People Citizen Ambassador’s program to China,South Africa, Cuba, and Australia. Dr. Doyon visited hospitals, dental schools, dental clinics, and dental labs. He was able to discuss and exchange ideas about his experience running a dental practice. He has further ambassadorial trips planned.
Dr. Doyon and his wife, Jeanne, have a son, Parker, who is in college. Outside of dentistry, he enjoys skiing with his family, landscaping his yard, and boating around Casco Bay. He also enjoys amateur photography, especially taking pictures of his son playing sports. Dr. Doyon also “hacks” his way around a golf course, “lumbers” his way through 5Ks, and enjoys woodworking, though “making sure all fingers stay away from sharp spinning blades!”
Dr. Doyon’s philosophy in dentistry is to help restore your mouth to its optimum health. His goal is to explain what’s going on with your mouth and general health, to recommend what can be done to solve the problem, and then to treat you as gently and efficiently as possible. There are many different options to restore your mouth to complete health, and he will explain all the options so you can make an informed decision. He treats each and every person as he would treat his own family and is always learning new technologies to incorporate into the practice for better patient care.
